Socorro Rosario “CORIE” F. Poblete’s journey towards public service was in no way predictable or typical. Indeed, she was the daughter of Clarito Amabalada Poblete who was Silang’s Mayor form 1986 to 1995 and again from 2019, but she had other plans. Her aspiration was to be involved in the enhancement of the quality of the labor force and therefore studied at the College of St. Benilde to graduate in 1996 with a degree in Human Resources. She supported her father’s mayoralty as any dutiful daughter would, inadvertently learning through assimilation the role’s scope of responsibilities. Her energies though were primarily trained on her role as a mother to her two children. It was in 2013 when she fully embraced her father’s challenge to push Silang socio-economically well into the 21st century. Having won the mandate of her constituency under her platform of sustainable & inclusive growth, she made history as being Silang’s first ever lady mayor. In this new-found capacity, she ably spearheaded the robust transformation of the municipality into her vision of “A God-loving, peaceful, healthly, empowered citizenry enjoying a progressive agri-industrialized and ecologically balanced community through a leadership highly committed to good governance and a model town serving a pivotal role to its adjacent communities.” It was very clear to her that as Local Chief Executive, she would lead the local government of Silang in the improvement of the lives of its people by providing them an environment conducive to developing a sustainable community where people have access to quality health and educational facilities, employment opportunities, livelihood assistance, institutional networking, effective law implementation, infrastructure projects, agri-industrial developmnt and a soundly-managed ecosystem.Mayor Corie is into the second year of her term and is eagerly ramping up towards the next six years to bring to complete fruition what she has envisioned for the people and municipality she has wholeheartedly chosen to serve.
